These are the 5 most requested features in Lowcountry custom homes

While 2020 has certainly thrown us for some loops, our team is grateful for the opportunities we’ve had to work on so many amazing projects this year. We’ve stayed busy constructing custom houses worthy of being called home for many amazing clients here in the Lowcountry. If you’re currently perusing coastal design ideas, check out our most requested custom build features to spark some creativity as you lay your own plans for 2021.

1.

Mudrooms and Functional Owner’s Entries

The holiday season has many of us daydreaming about the joy that comes with visitors. If you are too preoccupied with the nightmare of clutter to daydream about your holiday fun with family, an intentionally planned owner’s entry may be the solution to all your seasonal stress.

A “polished mudroom” may sound contradictory. Despite the oxymoronic sound, though, a well-designed owner’s entry is every disorganized homeowner’s dream. A stylish space dedicated entirely to getting organized is the simplest way to keep every other area of our homes in order and style, too.

Whether you’re a family of two or twenty-two, creating a space dedicated to decluttering your life could save your sanity. Our team has become well-versed in the design of functional spaces and mudrooms of all sizes to ensure every client’s custom build remains free of any space-related seasonal stressors.

2.

Bunk Rooms

Does the source of your seasonal stress stem from a lack of guest space? While we love sharing the joy of being Lowcountry locals with our friends and families from less lovely locales, it can prove difficult to provide adequate accommodations for your holiday guests without having your whole home taken hostage.

Many of our clients have found the perfect solution to overcrowded holiday homes without succumbing to fold-out couches. Bunkrooms are a beautiful space-saving solution to a lack of space. Our team uses space creatively to elevate, rather than crowd, dedicated guest areas. Providing small touches, charming details, and storage underneath the bunks can help guests feel warm and welcome instead of crammed and crowded.

3.

Open Concept Kitchen, Dining, and Living Rooms

Though once considered a passing fashion trend, a tried and true open-concept design has proven to be just as desirable as ever. And with the endless options for entertaining and family-friendly lifestyles that open floor plans provide, we can see why clients continue to request ways to open up their living space.

In our Moreland Cottage, we kept the aesthetic cohesive and the living space open, while still creating three distinct spaces. The exposed brick fireplace in the living area, richly stained french doors in the dining space, and custom built-in cabinetry of the kitchen add seamless transitions from one space to the next.

Just because you decide to open your home doesn’t mean that you can’t delight in distinctly designed kitchen, dining, and living areas. As this floor plan gains popularity here in the Lowcountry, our team continues to help clients put their own spin on open-concept living.

4.

Screened Porches

It’s no surprise that some of the most popular requests for custom homes in the Lowcountry are centered around elegant outdoor living. Screened porches allow residents to enjoy the Lowcountry lifestyle from the living room of their custom home to their beautifully-landscaped backyard...and beyond.

The 2020 HGTV Dream Home, which was built by Shoreline Construction, allows those blessed enough to live in the Lowcountry to enjoy the beauty of their surroundings whether indoors or out. The screened porch on the bottom level is one of many areas dedicated to bringing the outdoors in. In addition to building an exterior that accentuates the natural beauty surrounding the home, we ensured each interior space was constructed with attention to detail to ensure that this year’s HGTV Dream Home really lives up to its name.

5.

Outdoor Entertaining Areas

Clients throughout the year consistently request incredible outdoor areas to entertain guests. In the HGTV Dream Home, for example, both a grilling station and a fire pit were incorporated to make the hardscape feel just as home-y as the interior. Whether you’re looking for a poolside cabana or a charming fireside retreat, outdoor entertaining is something to keep in mind when planning your custom build in 2021.

After a year like 2020, it’s no surprise that clients have been requesting custom home features that will make life with loved ones more carefree and a bit less chaotic. Our team is ready to help you plan your build as we move into another beautiful year in the Lowcountry. Get in touch today to start making selections for YOUR version of a dream home. We can’t wait to hear what you have in mind!
