2021 Interior Design Trends

Does the New Year have you ready for a new home or remodel? If social distancing and staycations have motivated you to plan a new aesthetic for your home in the year ahead, we’ve got the emerging trends of 2021 covered. From heightened connections to the natural world to funky and colorful furniture design, take a peek at the trends we’re expecting to see as we say sayonara to 2020.

Muted Tones

Muted colors and mushroom tones are here to stay throughout 2021. With a turn toward warm undertones, we’re expecting to see more off-white shades like taupe, cream, and sand. These versatile tones provide soft backdrops throughout your spaces—from kitchens with butcher blocks to handcrafted headboards, neutral colors accent natural features flawlessly!

Look to complement earthy shades with bold tones and splashes of color to offset neutral interiors. Moody colors like burgundy and forest green look great against other neutrals and trendy tones. When you’re making plans, whether with a simple statement piece or full color palette, don’t be afraid to experiment with pigment in 2021!

Natural and Handcrafted Materials

Expect to hear two design buzzwords throughout the next year: natural and handcrafted. We’re always searching for natural materials and organic textures for our Lowcountry inspired indoor spaces. Wood, glass, stone, and other natural mediums continue to phase out synthetic surfaces and plastics as designs go green.

Stained woods are particularly in demand for elegant earthy aesthetics. Homeowners are using this elegant material to accent kitchens, bathrooms, staircases, and more. Natural materials beautifully incorporate into any backdrop–bold or neutral.

Handcrafted tiles and exposed brick become more and more popular as we move toward the new year. For countertops, consider beautifully bright stones. This surface makes a statement to exquisitely elevate any kitchen while keeping a natural look. Industrial brick beautifully complements leafy houseplants as the number of indoor gardens continues to grow. Don’t be afraid to experiment with natural mediums and textured surfaces in the upcoming year.

Natural Light & Outdoor Spaces

Many of us spent hours upon hours confined to our homes in 2020. The impact of social distancing has many homeowners ready to find ways to enjoy those fresh South Carolina breezes without leaving their home.

Anticipate lots of sunny, natural lighting and organic color schemes. If you’re a homeowner looking to bring the outside in, there are beautiful ways to incorporate a variety of indoor garden spaces–from simple rows of hardy houseplants to more elaborate herb gardens–indoor plants help interiors feel fresh.

Many homeowners are looking for something to make outdoor designs feel different. Pool cabanas, deck seating, and charming courtyards all provide the opportunity to extend the aesthetic of your custom home to the great outdoors.

Yard design and home facades are more important to homeowners than they were pre-pandemic. Outdoor entertaining areas have helped people create options to socialize throughout social distancing. We anticipate many people to plan their backyards and outdoor entertainment areas just as meticulously as they do their indoor spaces throughout the coming year.

Minimalism

Sustainable designs are on the rise and a minimalist ethos will inspire many of the coming year’s design trends. Expect elegantly minimal designs to continue to rise in popularity throughout 2021.

Minimal design means minimal furniture with which to work. A few statement pieces can help keep spaces engaging. Minimal doesn’t have to be monotonous. Whether it’s a whimsical hanging chair or a bold headboard, add flashes of individuality throughout the minimal designs in your home to illuminate your personality in an otherwise simple setting.

As minimalism becomes increasingly popular–light fixtures, banisters, built-in cabinetry, and delightful doorways are great solutions to help your simple aesthetic sing.

Home Offices

As more and more homeowners work remotely, an office space at home has become increasingly crucial. We love getting creative and finding ways to make sure that no space is forgotten. There’s nothing more stressful than having important paperwork strewn all over your dining room table.

Our team loves using imagination when brainstorming for home office design projects. A well-designed home will have homeowners much less worried about their new work worlds. The incorporation of clever nooks and crannies, floating shelves, and slim silhouettes into lovely layouts are great ways to create the perfect places to propel productivity.

Many aspects of our lifestyles have evolved over the course of these unprecedented times.

No matter how you feel after 2020, one thing is for sure–we’re very excited to bring beautiful home fashion trends to fruition in 2021. If you’re looking for ways to make your new home perfect for the new year, contact our team to start creating your own gorgeous Lowcountry plans.
