Counter Culture: The Latest Countertop Trends
Whether the construction of your custom home in the Lowcountry is in full-swing or the brainstorming and blueprint process has just commenced, chances are that the details of your future kitchen are occupying a good portion of your design daydreams. From both an aesthetic and a functional standpoint, countertops are one of the most important choices you’ll make when putting together the pieces of your one-of-a-kind kitchen.
While mediums like vinyl and linoleum come and go as fads die out, with their easy-to-clean surface and timeless aesthetic, marble and quartz are forever-favorite materials. Today’s counter-culture, if you will, is all about fresh white quartz, dramatic dark marbles, beautiful butcherblock, and the industrial look of poured concrete. Consider some of our favorite looks as you daydream about your future custom kitchen.
Go Bold (Beautifully)
While white quartz is a lovely way to ensure clean lines and a crisp aesthetic, it can be difficult to create a neutral palette without sacrificing personality. To avoid monotony in the heart of your future home, consider making a statement by adding bold accents in a purposeful way.
Our Greenville home perfectly illustrates this concept. From the window frames in the living room, to the oversized lighting fixtures above the island, and fabulous farmhouse sink, black accents break up the otherwise all-white kitchen. The resulting look is cohesive and fresh without losing any of the luxury associated with the Lowcountry.
Find the Right Veins
If beautifully marbled counters set your heart aflutter, there are plenty of ways to incorporate your favorite veined quartz without overpowering your culinary space. Our designers used a mix of metals, finishes, and hardware in the kitchen of our Greenwood home to maintain the balance and transitions of the open space.
With beautifully stained wood and reclaimed floors throughout the home, the gorgeous veins of the quartz ensure all eyes stay on the gorgeous counters of the space to set the kitchen apart.
Create a Warm Workspace
The kitchen of our Bennington Road home combines beautiful butcher block counters, reclaimed wood ceilings, and tons of charming accents to create a wonderfully warm atmosphere.
The large kitchen island is topped with dark marble to add allure and depth to the space. With a plethora of custom cabinetry, a gorgeous farmhouse sink, and plenty of windows to let the sunshine in, this kitchen pulls all the stops to ensure the heart of this home is both functional and fashionable.
Add Some Depth
If you’re dreaming of a white kitchen, you’re not alone.
This look continues to be popular, and for good reason! To keep your white kitchen from looking sterile, depth and variety are important factors. The kitchen of The Page home is a great example of this concept. Dark countertops and a marble backsplash provide just the right amount of contrast without detracting from the brightness of the room. Reclaimed wood flooring, stainless appliances, and warm lighting add additional touches of charm to this kitchen’s contemporary coastal aesthetic.
Our Chesterfield home is another gorgeous showcase of a mostly white kitchen that’s anything but basic. Texture and visual interest abounds thanks to organic wooden cabinetry, shiplap walls, a variegated backsplash, and open shelving. White quartz countertops were also carried into the butler’s kitchen, which has a look all its own thanks to eye-catching diamond wallpaper and cabinets painted in the perfect shade of blue-gray.
